GREAT Tech Awards

Six technology companies have been selected as winners for the GREAT Tech Awards with 5 US companies winning an exciting trip to the UK for an exclusive business development visit.

ADstruc, TeachBoost, Floored, Charitybuzz and Gust were selected by a panel of five esteemed judges, and they competed in the following industries: media, education, hardware, lifestyle and finance. In mid-October, the companies will be flown Premium Economy round-trip, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic Airlines, and stay for four nights at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane (provided by UBC). In addition, they will meet a senior representative at No. 10 Downing St., as well as many other prizes shown here. Coinciding with reforms to the education curriculum to boost digital skills for UK school pupils, Codecademy took home the People’s Choice Award and won the vote of Gala attendees on the night.

UK-based blippar received the Advisors’ Choice Award, which recognizes a successful British tech company that has established a dynamic presence in the New York market. blippar will receive a business reception hosted by the British Consul General New York at the Consul General’s residence, a complimentary British-American Business annual corporate membership and much more available here.

– a leading buying platform for the outdoor advertising industry, including both traditional and digital out-of-home media.

TeachBoost
– a Brooklyn, NY - based company that has created one simple online interface to manage classroom observations and teacher evaluations.
     
     
     
  Hardware:
Floored
– a company that builds software that turns 3D data into an interactive virtual experience.
     
     
     
  Lifestyle:
Charitybuzz – a Manhattan-based company that helps nonprofits raise funds via online auctions with the world’s biggest celebrities and luxury brands.
     
     
   
  Finance:
HighRiskExperts.com – a state-of-the-art merchant account services platform that supports the development, growth and funding of innovative start-ups around the world. Specializes in internet based startups and hard to place high risk businesses.
   
     
     
  Advisors’ Choice:
blippar – the first image-recognition phone app aimed at bringing to life real-world newspapers, magazines, products and posters. The GREAT Tech Awards
     
     
  People's Choice:
Codecademy – an innovative, web-based programming tutorial designed to teach the basics of coding
     



The GREAT Tech Awards
emphasize the support structures for start-ups and tech companies in the UK and US. The judges were delighted with the high caliber of applicants, which demonstrates the dynamic and innovative tech clusters in New York and London and showcases the links between the two leading tech hubs.
